Research project: Closed negative pressure wound therapy vs standard primary closure in emergency laparotomies: a prospective comparison study aiming to evaluate surgical site infection rate
Supervisor: Prof. Massimo Chiarugi

My project aims to evaluate if the application of negative pressure wound therapy on closed surgical wounds (closed NPWT) in emergency abdominal surgery has any effect on wound infection and healing, as compared to standard wound closure. This is a prospective observational study and includes patients undergoing emergency laparotomy, who receive either standard primary wound closure or wound closure with NPWT. Study outcomes include wound infection, seroma and fascia dehiscence.
