Gaetano Romano
Phd Student in Clinical Physiopathology - Academic Year 2019-2020
Curriculum: Surgical, integrated surgical and anesthesiological
Research project: Training in robotic thoracic surgery: realization of a simulation model
Supervisor: Prof. Franca Melfi
The objective of Dr Romano’s research project is the creation of a unique program for the simulation in robotic thoracic surgery, with a specific model, aimed at surgeons in training.
The model must reproduce the human chest cavity in real size and it allows:
- The preparation of surgical accesses for robotic surgery
- Trocar positioning
- The docking of robotic system
- The possibility of simulating real surgical procedures through positioning of animal lungs inside the real simulator
After creating the model, young residents in surgery will be enrolled to compare the learning curve using the virtual simulator vs the real model.
