Research project: Is nodulectomy feasible and safe for low-risk papillary thyroid cancer? A prospective study
Supervisor: Prof. Gabriele Materazzi

Chiara Becucci is a general surgeon and a PhD student in Clinical Physiopathology at the University of Pisa. Her research activity is focused on the treatment of low-risk papillary carcinomas of the thyroid. Specifically, she examines the feasibility of thyroid nodulectomy for microcarcinomas in comparison to thyroid lobectomy. The aim of her study is to compare the rate of iatrogenic hypothyroidism, post-operative complications and the quality of life of nodulectomy and thyroid lobectomy in patients affected by small low-risk thyroid papillary carcinoma. Over the years, she has perfected herself in ultrasound practice, in endocrine surgery and she also participated in national and international courses and conferences.
