Research project: Serum calprotectin in surgical septic patients as an early predictor of clinical severity and mortality: a prospective comparative study.

Silvia Strambi is a fifth-year General Surgery resident and a PhD student in Clinical Physiopathology at the University of Pisa. Her research activity is focused on physiopathology and treatment of abdominal surgical pathology. Currently, she is studying the performance of serum calprotectin as a novel sepsis biomarker in septic patients requiring abdominal emergency surgery with her PhD project “Serum calprotectin in surgical septic patients as an early predictor of clinical severity and mortality: a prospective comparative study”.
Her interest in scientific research has actualized in the publication, to date, of a book and over 30 articles in indexed medical journals and in the participation as a speaker at national and international conferences.
