Surgical, Integrated Surgical and Anaesthesiological

Read Curricula

The curriculum is designed to train highly qualified personnel by providing the theoretical foundations and the essential methodological skills needed to carry out innovative translational and clinical research in all fields of surgical and anaesthesiological sciences.

Within the curriculum, various disciplines converge, including general surgery, oncologic and transplant surgery, thoracic surgery, cardiac surgery, and specialised ophthalmic, dental and ENT surgery, as well as anaesthesiological sciences.

The scientific training of the PhD candidates therefore addresses, in a multidisciplinary way, the pathophysiology of diseases and conditions treated surgically, with particular attention to the biochemical and genetic aspects underlying clinical phenotypes.

From a clinical perspective, training focuses on the development and application of new technologies in surgery, both with regard to minimally invasive and robotic techniques, and with regard to innovation in devices used in general and specialised surgery.

This training approach is closely integrated with advanced research in anaesthesiological sciences, focusing on pain management, perioperative multiorgan support, intensive care, and the prevention and control of perioperative infections.

The programme of lectures and seminars is delivered by members of the Academic Board, by experts from national and international institutions and by professionals from the technological industry.

The scientific training pathway is based on experimental work carried out in the laboratories and facilities of the proposing Department under the supervision of a Tutor. Collaborations with advanced research centres, in Italy and abroad, are strongly encouraged, with the aim of training researchers capable of distinguishing themselves in the national and international scientific landscape.
